Thank you! I would definitely be open to collaborating with others on the research here. I know that a number of subscribers are journalists and academic researchers so if they are interested in this kind of thing I'm open to it. I don't think I'm tech-savvy enough to set this kind of thing up on my own...one big google doc of MPD arrests and DC Superior Court cases does NOT seem like the way to go here.
It's not its own category in the crime data so it's tough. The best I can think of is downloading the broader category of burglaries from DC Crime Cards (https://crimecards.dc.gov/). If you download the raw data there are a few where the "method" is "gun" or "knife" (as opposed to "others") which probably count as "home invasions" but also may be an undercount.
Thanks, that's what I figured. I saw some national stats that said 30% or so of burglaries are considered home invasions, but I couldn't find anything further past that.
Thanks for the help. I may look this up later, but for now, I'm just going to omit it.
Man, Joe, this is fantastic. I think a 30% closure rate on cold cases is good, right?
Has there been any thought of partnering with a local criminal justice or journalism school to help with this research project?
If you think itβs a good idea we can begin the social media campaign to reach out to people. Just a thought.
Thanks for your service. This is always educational. Appreciate you.

Well hopefully when they read this they will take up the gauntlet!
I have no discernible skills in this area or I would jump right on it. π
Random question...
You don't happen to have stats on home invasions in DC, do you?
I'm finishing up a piece for tomorrow and was just curious if there were stats on it, and my google search came up empty.
Thanks for any help.

Appreciate the quick response, Joe!
